Are you hitting a festival this summer? Whilst it’s the perfect time to let loose, enjoy music, spend time with friends and party your heart away, sometimes your period can tag along too. But you don't need to let your period stop you from enjoying yourself! So, here's our top tips on how to survive your period at a festival...

How to survive your period at a festival

Pack the essentials

Before you head off to the fields, make sure you pack your essentials:

  • Our organic cotton pads, tampons & liners are perfect for those hot & sweaty summer days (and they biodegrade within 18 months!) or our Mooncup - it can be worn for up to 10 hours of leak-free bliss and zero waste!
  • A revolutionary Shewee! Designed to let you do your business almost anywhere, the Shewee is perfect for festival goers.
  • Some Wype gel. We all know that wet wipes are dreadful for our planet, luckily Wype has come up with a natural gel that’ll make your toilet paper work harder for you and keep you feeling fresh.
  • Plus, don’t forget spare underwear, pain relief medication and hand gel!

Track your period

We’re always talking about how important it is to get to know your flow and track your cycle. By better understanding your menstrual cycle, you’ll be able to know in advance if your period is due during your festival weekend.

Dress comfortably

For some, festivals are all about the outfits. Don’t forget to select outfits that are comfortable, breathable and allow for easy movement. Loose-fitting or flowy shapes made from natural and organic materials can help you feel at ease (and accommodate any bloating or discomfort!) Some may prefer to wear darker colours or patterns if they’re worried about leaking too.

Stay hydrated & eat well

Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious foods to alleviate some period symptoms. Staying hydrated can help reduce bloating and keep your energy levels up. Opt for foods rich in iron and magnesium to combat fatigue and mood swings.

Practise good hygiene

Maintaining good hygiene is crucial during your period, especially at a festival where facilities may be limited and lower quality. Carry hand sanitiser and tissues for quick clean ups. Ensure you change your period care regularly if you do opt for pads or tampons so you’re feeling fresh.

Find a safe space

Many festivals provide a chill out or quiet area for those who wish to seek a little peace in the chaos. Take advantage of these safe spaces and take a moment to relax away from the hustle & bustle of the main stage.

Have a buddy system

If you’re attending a festival with friends, create a buddy system where you can support and assist each other. Share your period supplies, keep an eye out for each other and offer a helping hand when needed. Make sure you take note and agree upon any clear meet up points just in case you get separated too.

Pace yourself

Remember, festivals can be physically and emotionally draining. Even when you’re not on your period. Listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard. Take breaks, find shady areas to rest and prioritise your self-care to manage any discomfort or fatigue.

Embrace the experience

Of course, don’t let your period overshade your festival experience! Your period is natural and is nothing to be ashamed of. Focus on seeing your favourite music, embracing the atmosphere and creating memories you’ll treasure forever.

So, whilst being at a festival whilst on your period may seem challenging, with the right preparation and mindset, you’ll have an amazing time. Remember to pack the essentials, be mindful of your body’s needs and embrace the festival spirit.
